Presidents’ Climate Commitment

Making WVU a More Sustainable Campus:

We think that WVU should be setting an example in West Virginia by helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The PCC is highly visible way to become more eco-friendly and let people know what is being done along the way.

The Commitment

The American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) is a effort to address global climate disruption undertaken by a network of colleges and universities that have made institutional commitments to eliminate net greenhouse gas emissions from specified campus operations, and to promote the research and educational efforts of higher education to equip society to re-stabilize the earth’s climate. Its mission is to accelerate progress towards climate neutrality and sustainability by empowering the higher education sector to educate students, create solutions, and provide leadership-by-example for the rest of society.

What we are doing

The WVU Sierra Student Coalition is making great strides in order for WVU to adopt this commitment as a way of addressing climate change. The SSC has petitioned, photo-petitioned, spoke to several other organizations, all in hope of getting this information to WVU’s students so that they can make an informed decisions regarding the commitment.
We are pleased to say that we have acquired over 600 student signatures and have the endorsement of 12 student organizations on campus.
